An Adventurous Bike Ride

Sometimes I think about changing the sub-title on my blog. Arnie and I are not just trying to raise adventurous eaters, but also adventurous people. We try to provide them great and memorable experiences. Like visiting the Boeing Fire Department with Aunt Charr and all their second (maybe third? How does that work, Charr?). Or camping all over Washington. Or going for a great bike ride. That's what we did today as a family. A great bike ride. There is a seven mile route on the south side of Aberdeen that we rode. It is a mostly paved trail that leads out to our baseball/soccer fields. There is a fun playground out there, so we trekked out. The boys practice their tricks on the way. Robby's favorite is a modified superman where he leans out over the handle bars and brings his feet up by the seat. It looks painful, but is impressive. Arnie brings both feet to one pedal and coasts. Katie worries for them. She says, "Dad!" in a shriek-y voice whenever Arnie does something ridiculous and rides recklessly off the path. Hopefully the kids will take experiences like this through life as memories of a healthy childhood.

We had fun. We were tired. We came home and ate chicken goulash and balsamic vinegar beets. Both of the kids tried the beets. Katie's face did not look as tortured as Robby's. I guess they don't like them yet. I'll keep trying. The beets are one of very few vegies that have grown enough to harvest this summer. Anyone got a recipe for candied beets? If you can't comment, email it to me and I will post it for us. Do you think the kids would like candied beets?
