With Dorrie's son, Tanner, at camp, she is free to be wild. And let me tell you, my girl Dorrie, she can really let loose. First she and Jennifer painted the living room. Yes, people, painted the living room. I haven't see it yet, but Jennifer said it looked great. What is the color? Sandpaper. No. Emery Board. No. It's a light tan, right, Dorrie? Every year when Tanner goes to camp, Dorrie plays Bingo. She always invites me, but something is always going on. This year, I got bold and daring, and went. I so rarely go out - even with Arnie - that the kids were fascinated. They both watched me get ready. I even put on make-up and straightened my hair.
Five of us went to play at a local casino. These casinos are all over Washington, but I haven't been to one. This was fun. Kathleen even played with this fancy machine called a PhD - Planet's Handheld Device. I kept calling her Dr. Bingo. Her machine made a cell-phone style alert whenever one of her cards was close to a Bingo. Pretty amazing. She never did Bingo, but when you do Bingo with one of these machines, it flashes "Yell Bingo" on the screen.
We each played what felt like 50 cards, but was actually only something like 21. Nanci, sitting next to me, gave me the giggles when she asked if the caller had said O-77. I had to pause and think. Then I had to look up at the board. Then I had to tell her. "There is no O-77." Then we were both lost for a few minutes because we were laughing too hard to keep up. Across the table, Jennifer was sweating bullets trying to keep up with the Bingo caller. I don't think she put her Dabber down once the whole night. The only cool-as-a-cucumber player, you guessed it, Dorrie. Of all of us, she deserved a win for her mellow and calm Bingo behavior.
Of course, a great part of the night? Eating. There was this trendy deli next to the massive room where Bingo is held. They make burgers, quesadillas, sandwiches, pizzas, and other grill style foods. They make everything right there at the counter. The night we were there, the ladies working behind the counter were great. In this picture, I'm getting my food from one server who barked names out, "Maureen!" was more like "Mren!" She sounded fierce. I wanted to call her "Flo", she was so diner-esque. Once engaged with her though, she was sweet as pie. Put my order into a to go container for me and thought it was "cool" that Jennifer was taking pictures for my blog. I ate buffalo wings - good, but I wish I had ordered a salad or a quesadilla. Kathleen ate a salad that looked delicious. Jennifer got a chicken caesar wrap that was also good. Nanci and Dorrie both got the chicken quesadillas and they said were great.
We all got some kind of treat, of course. They were so accommodating in the diner that when I asked the cashier if they had any brownies (they were on the menu, I wasn't being demanding) she left through a door to the buffet tables in the main restaurant and brought me some from there! Totally worth it. They were delicious. I'm so glad I have people that I can call my friends who actually invite me out, no matter how embarrassingly loud and bad at Bingo I am. Being away from the family can be a good challenge for all of us. Arnie, Robby, and Katie had fun, and so did I!
